I've read and enjoyed this author before. I love short stories and I'm generally up for dark and weird. But this book just didn't hit me right. There was some ugly violence toward animals that I hate in any context and it ruined the whole collection for me.

Having said that, the stories all center around people who've gone missing in their own lives. For various reasons they are voiceless or invisible or not fully in touch with reality. If you can stomach the animal cruelty, then you might enjoy these stories.
